Nizza was previously a sub-region of Barbera d’Asti Superiore. In recognition of the superior well-exposed hillside sites that consistently produced the ripest, highest-quality fruit in the region, it was Elevated to DOCG status in 2014.

This wine is similar in many ways to the Scrimaglio Barbera d’Asti in that it has the classic flavor profile of a more serious version of Barbera. Dark, ripe fruits, this wine leaning more towards black plum with sweet underbrush. While the crunchy acididy is present, it is slightly muted. This and the added heft of this wine is mostly due to the additional oak aging that is required by the disciplinare of the appellation.
